چکیده مقاله:
Capparis spinosa L. (Caper) is known as an aromatic plant, commonly used in Mediterranean diet, possessing numerous antioxidant compounds such as phenols, rutin, tocopherols, carotenoids, and vitamin C in its leaves. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of Iranian Caper leaves extract on oxidative stress caused by CCl4 in mice liver. In this study, a total number of 42 Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) male mice were randomly divided into 6 groups of 7 animals in each group. The control group, the sham group, CCl4 group, Iranian Caper leaves extract 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg + CCl4 groups. Then Biochemicals, oxidative stress and hepatic histopathology parameters evaluated. The results showed that co-administration of Iranian Caper leaves extract and CCl4 significantly (P<0.001) decreased the levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA) and also significantly (P<0.01) increased the levels of glutathione (GSH) and catalase (CAT) in comparison with the group treated with CCl4 alone. Furthermore, the findings revealed that Iranian Caper leaves extract improved histopathological changes such as vacillation of vessels, necrosis of hepatocytes, infiltration of inflammatory cells, as well as dilated sinusoids. It concluded that Iranian Caper has protective effects on hepatotoxicity induced by CCl4, mainly through suppression oxidative stress.

Colchicine protects rat skeletal muscle from ischemia/reperfusion injury by suppressing oxidative stress and inflammation
Objective(s): Neutrophils play an important role in ischemia/reperfusion (IR) induced skeletal muscle injury. Microtubules are required for neutrophil activation in response to various stimuli. This study aimed to investigate the effects of colchicine, a microtubule-disrupting agent, on skeletal muscle IR injury in a rat hindlimb ischemia model. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one Sprague-Dawley ...
متن کاملThe Hydroalcoholic Extract of Saffron Protects PC12 Cells against Aluminum-Induced Cell Death and Oxidative Stress in Vitro
Background: Aluminum (Al) exposure is among the environmental risk factors that may involve in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Oxidative stress has a critical role in the Al-induced toxicity. Saffron is a plant with potent radical scavenging and anti-oxidative properties. This investigation was designed to evaluate the possible protective effects of saffron extract (SE) on alumi...
متن کاملMicroRNA-424 protects against focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury in mice by suppressing oxidative stress.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We previously showed that the microRNA miR-424 protects against permanent cerebral ischemic injury in mice by suppressing microglia activation. This study investigated the role of miR-424 in transient cerebral ischemia in mice with a focus on oxidative stress-induced neuronal injury. METHODS Transient cerebral ischemia was induced in C57/BL6 mice by middle cerebral arte...
متن کاملAdrenomedullin protects rat dorsal root ganglion neurons against doxorubicin-induced toxicity by ameliorating oxidative stress
Objective(s): Despite effective anticancer effects, the use of doxorubicin (DOX) is hindered due to its cardio and neurotoxicity. The neuroprotective effect of adrenomedullin (AM) was shown in several studies. The present study aimed to evaluate the possible protective effects of AM against DOX-induced toxicity in dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) neurons. M...
متن کاملThe Hydroalcoholic Extract Obtained from Mentha piperita L. Leaves Attenuates Oxidative Stress and Improves Survival in Lipopolysaccharide-Treated Macrophages
Mentha piperita L. (peppermint) possesses antimicrobial properties, but little is known of its ability to modulate macrophages. Macrophages are essential in bacterial infection control due to their antimicrobial functions and ability to link the innate and adaptive immune responses. We evaluated the effects of the peppermint leaf hydroalcoholic extract (LHAE) on cultured murine peritoneal macro...
متن کاملPortulaca oleracea protects H9c2 cardiomyocytes against doxorubicin-induced toxicity via regulation of oxidative stress and apoptosis
Abstract Background and Objectives: Doxorubicin as an effective chemotherapeutic agent is frequently used in various cancers. Nowadays, the application of doxorubicin is limited due to its cardiotoxic effects. The important mechanism which is involved in the cardiac injury of doxorubicin is the generation of reactive oxygen species; therefore antioxidant compounds may reduce cardiotoxicity. ...
